The Short Answer

Diakite Roofing & Restoration is a roofing and exterior restoration contractor in Columbia, Maryland, owned by Lassana Diakite. We replace roofs and siding across Howard County and six neighboring counties. Every job opens with a free no-obligation inspection by a HAAG certified inspector. Call (667) 200-6656, Mon-Sat 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

  • Do you charge for the inspection? No. The inspection is free and there is no obligation attached to it.
  • What areas do you serve? We work across Howard, Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Prince George's, Carroll, Frederick & Baltimore Counties from Columbia, roughly a 35-mile radius.
  • How long does a roof replacement take? Most residential replacements are one day: tear-off in the morning, the new system on and the site cleaned by evening.
  • Do you handle insurance work? Yes, that is where the restoration side comes from.

Before and After

Drag the slider across a roof we replaced

Both pictures came off our own camera, on the same house and the same chimney, before the tear-off and after the new system went on. Drag the handle, or tab to it and use the arrow keys.

The same red brick chimney on the finished gray architectural shingle roof, with new black base flashing worked in around it Aging tan three-tab shingles running up to the red brick chimney, lawn and trees beyond
One house, one chimney, photographed from the roof before the tear-off and again after the new system went on. The roof edge and the lawn behind it are in the same place in both frames, so what you are watching change is the covering: aging tan three-tab shingles for gray Owens Corning architectural shingles, and old flashing for new black base flashing worked in around the brick.

Included on a Full Replacement

100 feet of gutter with your roof replacement

Every full roof replacement we do across Central Maryland comes with 100 feet of gutter, gutter guard and downspouts on the same job. It is part of the replacement rather than a second trip and a second invoice, and it is the reason the water coming off a new roof goes where it should.

Included with a full roof replacement. It is not a standalone service, and there is no end date on it.

How it works

  1. 01

    Book the free inspection

Call or send the form. We set a time, walk the roof, and photograph every slope, including the parts you cannot see from the ground.

  2. 02

    Look at the photos

You go through the same photos the inspector took before anyone talks about scope, so you know whether you are buying a roof or keeping the one you have.

  3. 03

Written scope and a firm date

Retail or insurance, the scope goes in writing with your shingle color and an install date. Permits are handled as part of the job.

  4. 04

    Installed and cleaned up

Most homes are finished the same day. Magnets go over the lawn and driveway before the truck pulls out.

Lassana came out and looked at my roof after all the crazy storms going around and told me that my roof doesn't have any damages yet whereas all the over roofers told me I need a new roof. My Roof was only 10 year old

Who actually shows up

Diakite Roofing & Restoration works out of Columbia and covers Howard, Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Prince George's, Carroll, Frederick & Baltimore Counties, roughly a 35-mile ring. Lassana Diakite owns it and does the inspections himself.

He is HAAG certified, which matters most once hail is in the picture, because that inspection has to hold up in front of an adjuster and not just look thorough from the driveway. Scopes get written in Xactimate, the same estimating software the carriers price from, so the paperwork lines up instead of turning into a three-week argument.

What happens when the roof turns out fine

The reason to call a smaller outfit is what happens when the roof turns out to be fine. One homeowner had roofer after roofer telling him he needed a replacement on a ten-year-old roof. Lassana went up, found no damage, and said so.

That review is still sitting on the Google profile. Nothing gets sold here that the shingles do not need, and the inspection costs the same either way, which is nothing.

What a replacement day looks like

When a roof does have to come off, most residential replacements are torn off, decked and re-shingled inside one day, so the house is not sitting open under a tarp overnight. Owens Corning architectural shingles go on over a deck that has been walked and checked, and any soft sheathing gets shown to you before new material covers it up.

A full replacement also carries 100 feet of gutter with gutter guard and downspouts on the same job rather than a second trip. The Google rating is 5.0 across 23 reviews, every one of them earned on jobs like these.

Hail is the one that gets missed

Hail is the one that gets missed. A bruised shingle rarely leaks on the day it is struck. The impact fractures the mat and knocks granules loose, the exposed asphalt then bakes through a couple of humid summers, and the slope starts failing two or three years after the storm that caused it.

By then the claim window is usually closed. That is why the inspection is chalk-marked and photographed slope by slope instead of eyeballed from the driveway, and why a certified read matters more here than a quick look.

Wind does its damage at the edges

Rakes, ridges and the first courses above the eaves are where tabs lift and the seal strip lets go, and a lifted tab does not always look wrong from the street. Then there is the freeze-thaw stretch either side of winter, which pushes meltwater back under the first courses at the eave, so ice and water barrier along the eaves and valleys is not an upsell. Neither is balanced intake and ridge ventilation, which is what keeps a humid attic from cooking the underside of a new roof before it has earned its keep.

Good to Know

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge for the inspection?

No. The inspection is free and there is no obligation attached to it. A HAAG certified inspector walks the roof, photographs every slope, and tells you what is actually up there before anyone talks about scope or price.

What areas do you serve?

We work across Howard, Anne Arundel, Montgomery, Prince George's, Carroll, Frederick & Baltimore Counties from Columbia, roughly a 35-mile radius. That includes Columbia, Ellicott City, Clarksville, Elkridge, Laurel, Silver Spring, Rockville, Bowie, Glen Burnie, Annapolis, Eldersburg, Catonsville, plus the towns in between.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most residential replacements are one day: tear-off in the morning, the new system on and the site cleaned by evening. Steep or cut-up rooflines can run into a second day, and we tell you which yours is when we scope it.

Do you handle insurance work?

Yes, that is where the restoration side comes from. We document the damage slope by slope, and the scope is written in Xactimate, the same estimating software the carriers use, so the numbers line up with what your adjuster is looking at.

Who actually shows up?

Lassana Diakite. He owns the company and does the inspections himself, so the person on the roof is the person you spoke to on the phone.

What shingles do you install?

Owens Corning architectural shingles. You pick the color off real samples held against your own brick or siding rather than off a screen.
